Mdm Som Said, a choreographer, instructor, director with more than 40 years of experience. From a humble hobby, now Mdm Som Said led young arts enthusiast moves towards professionalism in the art scene. Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts aims to play a role in making Singapore a more cultural vibrant society and make arts our way of life.

SOM MD SAID P.B.M
Dancer, diplomat and designer, Som M Said is a dynamic cultural ambassador for Singapore who has thrilled international audiences with her choreography, costumes design and make-up artistry.
Som has been a dancer with Singapore's National Dance Company since 197I, and a choreographer of Malay dance for television, festivals and parade since 1974. She is also a successful Malay entrepreneur. She regards her role as a costume designer and owner of the Ratu Sari Bridal House, the first Malay wedding boutique in Singapore, "as a "fulltime career" and that as a choreographer/dancer/Artistic Director as a "fulltime hobby".
In reality, her boundless energy has resulted in successful parallel careers. Som Said has received the Ministry of Community Development's Cultural Medallion in 1987 for her contribution to Singapore dance and for her promotion of the republic cultural exchange programs. "Not only are the steps and gestures of Malay dance beautiful", she enthuses, "but they are meaningful and they tells a story"
A pioneering member of the Sriwana Cultural Group in 1965. She instruct, teaches and direct the dance section since 1968 and was appointed as the Artistic Director of its dance section in 1985 to 1999. She has also been recognized for her work with the nation's children, winning the National Youth Service Award in 1979 In 1992 she received her PBM "Pingat Bakti Masyarakat' award from the President of Republic of Singapore on Singapore's 27th National Day Since 1972 Som has represented Singapore overseas She is currently a choreographer for "instant Asia" a dramatic dance presentation of Singapore's diverse cultural heritage Som has traveled to Russia, man Kagoshima Athens, Cairo, Dubai, New Delhi, West Germany, Nepal, Milan, New Zealand, Korea, Vancouver, Toronto, Brisbane Adelaide, Melbourne and Taiwan for the cultural promotion in Singapore.
In 1989, Som was selected to participate in the "Experts Media Tour" to North America, Washington, Seattle, Miami, San Francisco New York, California, Los Angeles and Chicago, to promote Singapore culture through interviews on Radio, Magazines and Newspapers organized by Singapore Tourism Board Some of Som's major works for Asean Dance Festivals, Cultural Exchange Programme and Overseas promotions, as well as for local national event includes, Ali & Fatimah, Sungapura dilanggar Todak, Geylang Serai, Putri Gunung Ledang, Hidup, Bersanding Suite, Unity in Rhythm, Surprising Singapore,Tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew, My Country My Singapore, Kasih Ibu, Mari Mendaki, Norlela, Determination and others.
In 1997, Som founded Sri Warisan Som said Performing Arts Limited to concentrate full-time on the developing performing arts scene in Singapore. Its mission is to make the arts accessible to all through Arts Education Programmes and public outreach Programmes.
Sri Warisan also aims to provide as a platform for professionalism in the arts. Som's works in Sri Warisan's production includes, Bakat Cilik 1999 & 2000, Lestari Seni 2000 & 2001, Lagu & Irama 2000, Musical dance drama 'Aksi Remaja' 2001, Gerak Bergerak 2001, Gurindam Melayu 2001, Roots 2002, Singapore Zapin Festival 2001, childrens production, Puteri cindai Dewi 2001, Nasib-Nasib 2002, Lagenda Tun Fatimah, Cultural Medallion Receipient Award (2005), Lagenda Raden Mas (2008).
Som is now participating actively in the arts Exposure and Arts Experience Programmes conducted in primary and secondary schools in Singapore This Arts education Programmes is organized by National Arts Council, supported by Singapore Totallisator Board.
With Som's more than 30 years of successful experience in promoting, producing and directing dance as full time hobby with Sriwana, National Dance Company, People's Association and Instant Asia, she is now leading enthusiastic creative people towards professionalism in a newly formed Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts Ltd The Company with to play an expanded role in the promotion of culture and in art education focusing on children and youth and aim to achieve greater professionalism and flexibility and make arts accessible to all.
